BATH SPA TRAIN
& BUS STATION
Trains
Bath Spa railway station is conveniently located at
the southern side of the city just a few minutes walk from the centre (follow this link to
check it out on the
map). It is also next to the bus station. There are local
services to nearby towns (Bristol, Frome, Bradford upon Avon, etc) as well as a fast
direct link to London (Waterloo) running every hour.
To walk to the Carfax Hotel takes about 15
minutes, while a taxi from the rank outside will charge you £3 or £4 to get you
there in 5 minutes.
The UK's railways, recently privatized, are now split into
over 20 different networks. As a result, timetables are not that useful because you have
to cross reference the services available from different operators - Thank you Mrs
Thatcher.
The best way of finding out how and when to get from one
place to another is to use a search facility.
Search Engines (!)
The standard UK search facility is provided by Railtrack.
Railtrack are the newly created organisation which is responsible for operating the
railway infrastructure - i.e. the track. Information from all the operating companies is
included here.

Another search facility is provided by the German railways
(in English) and covers all rail services in Europe. This is very fast and also provides a
selection of 3 alternatives immediately in a convenient table and if you ask for other
alternatives, it includes those in the same table.
